Joe Simon

October 11, 1913 – December 14, 2011

Along with Jack Kirby, he co-created Captain America for Timely Comics (later to become Marvel) in 1940.

It bums me out to learn he passed away, but at least he got to see his most well-known creation make it to the silver screen.

  1. Uh-oh. Christopher Hitchens passed away today.
Don’t these things always go in threes?

Any record of whether Mr. Simon liked the movie?

    1. Wonder who the third might be?

I own the Captain America Blu-Ray, and in it, there’s a short documentary where some of Mr. Simon’s relatives (children? grandchildren? I don’t recall) attend the premiere of the movie. They seemed happy . . . how could they not be? The movie kicked ass. Way, way, way bettern than Green Lantern.

But then, I’ve always been partial to Marvel.
